After multiple success tests of miniature propulsion systems and airframes, two full-scale vehicles were put into prototype known as the Haunebu I. The Haunebu I was 81 feet wide, and capable of reaching speeds close to Mach 4.
For weaponry, the Haunebu I was fitted with turret containing twin mounted 60mm Kraftstrahlkanone (KSK) energy-beam weapons. Even though these weapons worked, they put a lot of strain on the crafts energy system, which lead to them replacing them with MK 108 30mm. These cannons were standard armament, for many other German fighter aircraft.
Two Haunebu Is were constructed for prototypical purposes. Both of them had a diameter of 25 meters. Each craft was capable of carrying a crew of 8 men, with a flight endurance of 18 hours. The armaments of the Haunebu I were turrets consisting, twin 60mm KraftStrahlKanone, which were a type of energy weapon The first prototype could only 4,800 km/h while flying at lower altitudes. Because of this high speed, much heat was created on the surface of the craft. This led to the SS having to develop a new type of material known as “Victalen.” The next Haunebu I would be built with a double hull of this material.
The second machine was capable of reaching a much faster rate of about 17,000 km/h. This would lead the German to build big and better of this type from this series.
