Early disk craft were normally fitted with conventional weapons, but the magnetic forces exerted by these crafts would usually cause the weapons systems to malfunction. This caused the Black Sun research group to develop energy-based weapons, which would run off the aircraft’s own power, for ammo. There were issues with these systems putting too much of an energy strain on the ship. Later this problem would be overcome.
During the final months of the War, several B-17 as well as other allied aircraft returned to base with unexplained damage, usually on the wings and the tail sections. Many of these incidents were attributed to the legendary foo fighter. Some reports in the US Airforce claim that these weapons could cut a aircraft like a hot wire cutting cheese.
The allies had no clue what kind of weapons the Germans were using against their aircraft.
