On May 5th, 1945, the Soviet forces arrive in Prague. Before the site was capture Epp and his men, along with help from the German military, sapped the protypes and burned nearly all their documentation, to keep the technology from falling into enemy hands. Unfortunately, the Soviets captured Josef Andreas Epp, along with his team. After the Soviets won the battle the interrogated, and took him prisoner, for a short time, where he was forced to work on Soviet jet bombers, like the Baade 152.
Even though Epp was captured and forced to work on jet bombers, as a prisoner, he did try to persuade the Soviet to build long range disk crafts, which could be controlled remotely. His idea was rejected, by the Soviets, but he did work another Soviet craft known as the Pirna Disc. A few years later, upon request, he was able to be relocated to America.
After the war Epp tried to find work as an airplane technician but couldn’t. This led him to having enough free time, for him to start working on his own designs, of flying saucers. He was only able to get the materials he needed for this protype, by going around his city, and collecting rubble. He would normally offer cigarettes or food that Epp was able to source from the black market. While he did this, he was limited in how big his research could be, due to his past, as a Nazi. The allies in control limit his prototypes, to a weight of 5 kilograms.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t fund his protype, living in Prague. He wanted to start his own business but couldn’t since he had a Nazi past. At the time, in Spain ex Nazis were allowed to run businesses, so Andreas Epp immigrated Barcelona. Here he worked as a technician designing compressors for cooling systems, but in secret he still kept working on his designs for disc crafts.
Epp needed to raise funds for his new, while also keeping it a secret, from people he viewed as traitorous. To do this he designed a 1/75 scale model of a futuristic delta wing craft, which he showed off, in order to have people invest in him. This allowed for him to collect funds, for a stealth project, which would be finished a year later.
“Disk-54” is what Epp titled his new device, which was a new and improved version of his flying disk concept.
When Epp wanted to move back to Germany, he moved back to the east side, because of his personal financial situation which was under Soviet rule at the time. Because of his past Epp was constantly harassed by the SED (Socialist Union Party of East Germany). Epp was accused of Espionage and had all his work seized and taken by the East German government.
This made him move to Bremerhaven, in West Germany, where he started working on, yet another design of disk craft know as “Omega Disk 55”. This was another scaled down prototype, which only measured 2 meter in diameter.
Since Epp was in the West Germany, and had access to American business, in 1956 Epp went on to patent his own type of propulsion system, and offer it to the USAF, and in 1958 Epp went on to patent an entirely new type of disc craft, which would have been able to carry a crew of 10 men. The American military researched this idea but still thought that the Avro car was much better design for them to pursue. After he save up enough money, working in Spain, he returned to Germany.
In 1958, Epp was able to make his first test flight of one of his models, after six months of building a new craft. He published his findings in the media and was quickly target by SED spies in West Germany, who tried to bribe Epp to work for them. Epp reported them to the police and was able to move out of Germany too America, because of his cooperation with the American forces stationed there.
During the rest of his life, he kept working on a new prototype of flying disk known as the “Omega Disk 58.” He used this project to try and garner much attention to himself and other works, at convention and media articles. He even claimed to have protypes of disks that could travel to other planets. Unfortunately, Epp failed in his efforts.
Epp died September 3rd,1997 at the ripe age of 83, alone and poor. Epp all his life claimed:
The UFO phenomenon is full of fairy tales invented only to divert from the real facts. Since 1945 all kind of rumours have circulated over fantastic flying machines, the so called flying saucers. […] Observers of such flying disks were made purposefully ridiculous. Due to my knowledge about the reality of the flying saucer constructions I nearly despaired.
