New Swabia

Since Germany was under threat of occupation, and the lost of Germany itself, the Ahnenerbe was tasked with finding empty land that was still available for colonization. Unfortunately, there was only one place in the world that wasn’t inhabited at the time: Antarctica. Just like their usual dispatches, the Ahnenerbe, kept this mission a secret from the world as well.

During 1937 to 1938 this secret Nazi Expeditionary force was led by Captain Ritscher. The fleet that they sent down two the south pole consisted of several large naval vessel, with two of them containing catapult system, use to launch sea planes. These planes would also be equipped with rocket motors that would fire, as well to provide life, when the plane was being launched from the catapult. After the plane was done in flight, it would taxi next to the ship, where a crane would rescue the plane out of the water.

The Nazi Expeditionary force landed in the area of Queen Maud Land, where the established their base. The planes they brought were used to recon the area, and photographed the terrain, which at the end of the whole trip consisted of over 11,000 photographs in total. Another task at hand was to have the ground crews plant Swatika Falg every 20 kilometers, so that Germany could lay claim to the land. In total it is believed that they were able to explore 600,000 in total. During their adventure they fed off animals they could hunt like seals, sea lions, and penguins, with some animals weighing in at around a ton, and being plentiful in number.

There were also photographs take of mountains that looked very similar to the alps, towering at 4,000 meters in height. Manly of these newly explored sites were given names after the men who discovered it, particularly Ritscher himself. The Germans also were said to have claimed ice free and warm lakes. They were described as oases, which they named “Schirmacher Seen Platte” — “Schirmacher Lake Group”. Inside these lakes were different types of algae, which created different colors. Even the water inside the oases was warm enough to swim in, which the soldiers took advantage of.
